During my time as a Respiratory Therapist in the burn unit at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, I played a crucial role that required compassion, resilience, and a deep understanding of the community’s diverse needs. The burn unit, also known as the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, provided me with invaluable experience in caring for patients from various backgrounds, including victims of child abuse, soldiers injured in battle, and community members affected by oil fires.
Working in the burn unit wasn’t just a job for me; it felt like a calling. I personally witnessed the transformative power of dedicated care, offering comfort to those who had faced unimaginable challenges. My responsibilities extended beyond medical expertise, involving the creation of an empathetic and supportive environment for patients and their families.
In the burn unit, our focus wasn’t just on treating injuries; we embraced individuals from all over the world, providing assistance during times of crisis. Caring for civilians flown in from different parts of the world broadened my perspective on the complexities of diverse communities.
The skills and experiences gained during my military service uniquely position me to contribute meaningfully to Celina’s growth and well-being. I’ve developed the ability to stay calm under pressure, make informed decisions in challenging situations, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
If given the opportunity to serve on the Celina City Council, I am committed to bringing this dedication, resilience, and global perspective to the forefront. My background instilled in me a sense of duty, and I am eager to channel that commitment into initiatives that improve the quality of life for our residents and promote the prosperity of our beloved city.
Leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of tomorrow.
